'Umar Khan Sarwani

'Umar Khan Sarwani
(?-1500?)
Wazir of Bahlul Lodi (1451-1489). At the latter's demise (1489), he is reported to have played a crucial role in ensuring the accession of Sikandar Lodi (1489-1517). In 1493, Sikandar Lodi imprisoned his brother Barbak Shah for showing incompetence in the fight against the Sharqis and gave him into the joint custody of Haibat Khan and 'Umar Khan Sar-wani; the latter was then holding a large iqta' at Sirhind. Umar Khan had close relations with Shaikh 'Abd al-Quddus Gangohi and had provided the shaikh a lucrative grant at Shahabad.
